Summary & Conclusion :The present study demonstrated a significant reduction in the scores of anxiety state and anxiety trait. A non-significant trend of reduction in Beck's Depression scores with significant changes in blood pressure, pulse rate respiratory rate as result of relaxation were also observed. The control group showed increased in Beck's depression scores.
Early research on Relaxation technique was carried out on postoperative pain in patients undergoing cardiac surgery (Miller & Perry, 1990). This study showed the effectiveness of a slow, deep breathing relaxation technique in relieving the post-operative pain after coronary bypass graft surgery. Of the 29 subjects studied, 11 subjects said the technique was helpful in pain management and there was significant changes in blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate and report of pain on the visual descriptor scale.
