A Comparative study of three different Yoga
modules on Attention and Concentration in normal children
Abstract :
The present study was aimed to assess attention and concentration
ability in children following intensive practice of integrated approach of
yoga and to compare the effects of three different modules of yoga on
attention and concentration through cancellation tests. Normal
healthy-English-medium school children [n=338, 9-12 years (10.0± 0.83)] were
randomly assigned into three groups, shanti [= Creativity Development (CR)
Sthiti [= IQ Development (IQ); Laya [= Physical stamina Development (PS).
They were taught three different yoga modules including yoga postures,
breathing exercises, kriya (cleansing technique), meditation, games and
lecture by trained instructors. Cancellation (Digit, Letter and Character)
tests were administrated to children in all three groups on first and ninth
day of the residential program. As data were normally distributed, the
analysis was done using parametric, paired t-test. Comparison of pre and
post values showed that there was significant improvement (p< 0.001) in
digit cancellation test for all the three groups. [IQ group (31.11%); CRG
group (25.69%) and PS group (24.35 %)] as well in character cancellation [IQ
group (43.82%); CR group (34.81%) and PS group (32.45 %)].

Changes in Nostril dominance at sunrise
and sunset in students undergoing three specific Integrated Yoga modules
Abstract : The present
study was conducted to examine the changes in nostril dominance in 414
school children (age 9 to 12 years) during an intensive residential yoga
training program. Subjects were randomly allocated to three equal groups
(n=138) after stratifying for sex. Each group was assigned to one of
three integrated yoga modules, which are specially designed to improve
physical stamina (PS), intelligence (IQ) and creativity (CV). All three
groups underwent their respective yoga training intensively for 8 days.
Nostril dominance was assessed at sunrise and sunset on all days 8 days
of training using the slide method. Analysis was done by means of
chi-square test. Results showed that the nostril dominance of all three
groups significantly shifted from left or right nostril to both nostrils
at both sunrise and sunset. There was no significant difference between
boys and girls in the pattern of shift in nostril dominance. Correlation
analysis of frequency data of nostril dominance from 1st day to 8th day
indicated significant negative correlation’s between right or left and
both nostril dominance patterns. These findings from the present study
suggest that intensive yoga training for 8 days may improve nasal
balance and hence autonomic balance.

Efficacy of three different integrated yoga modules on Creativity in
School children (9 to 12 years)
Abstract : The present
study was conducted to compare the effect of three different integrated
yoga modules on creativity in 224 school students of both genders, aged
between 9 to 12 years. After stratifying for sex, subjects were randomly
allocated to three groups which were assigned to Analytical Intelligence
Group (B), Creative Intelligence Group (A), or Physical Performance Group
(C). All the groups practiced their on specific yoga modules for 10 days.
Creativity was assessed using a paper pencil test of divergent production,
based on Guilford's model of intelligence (1950) or Structure of Intellect
or SOI model that measures distinct creative abilities. The subjects were
evaluated on creativity at the beginning and the last day of the camp. The
results suggest that all three groups showed a significant improvement at
the creativity task scores following 10 days of their respective
intervention (p=0.001,two tailed, Paired 't' test). Hence the present
study shows the efficacy of an integrated yoga module in improving the
creativity scores, irrespective of yoga modules given to improve special
faculties. Read More...

Changes in nasal dominance at sunrise and sunset in students
undergoing three different integrated yoga modules
Abstract:
The Present study
was conducted to examine the changes in nostril dominance in
315 school students (age 13-17 yrs) in an intensive
residential yoga camp for 9 days. After stratifying for sex,
the students were randomly allocated to three groups
(n=105). Each group was assigned to one of three Integrated
Yoga Modules, which was specially designed to improve
physical stamina (PS), Intelligence (IQ) or Creativity (CR).
Nostril Dominance was assessed at sunrise and sunset on all
8 days of training using the slide method. Results showed
that, at baseline the number of students with right nostril
dominance was significantly highest (Chi-square test) at
sunrise and those of left at sunset. After intervention
there was a significant shift from right (at sunrise) or
left nostril (at sunset) to both nostrils from first to
eighth day (Spearman correlation -0.68 and -0.93). The shift
was most in creativity group at sunrise and IQ group at
sunset. At sunrise, significantly higher number of boys had
right and girls had left nostril dominance. At sunset larger
number of boys had left and girls had right nostril
dominance. The change towards both nostrils after yoga was
more prominent in girls at sunrise. These findings from the
present study suggest that intensive yoga training for 8
days can improve nasal balance validating the findings of
yoga Rsis quoted in ancient yoga text...
