Second Trimester - A time for Changes
By Ankita Goel

This trimester of pregnancy is usually the best phase of one's pregnancy, because this is the time when a woman has become comfortable with the thought of pregnancy; the initial nausea and tiredness also goes away and, finally, the heaviness and discomfort of the last months is not yet reached.

Yet there are many changes that you will experience - and that you should enjoy.

1.

Increase in weight and change of balance and structure. This may lead to occasional tiredness. So just go about your chores more quietly and find extra time for relaxation.

In view of your changing shape, make relaxation more effective by using suitable maternity pillows that will help you relax and sleep better. To read about maternity pillows, click here

Do not go on telling yourself and others as to how tired and weak you feel, as this creates an impact on the subconscious mind and may hamper you mentally and physically during the later stage of pregnancy and at the time of labour when all your reserves will be called upon.

This is the time when you shall start noticing many bodily changes like swelled up breasts, an expanded tummy, thickening thighs, wobbling bums, fuller face. You may tend to stop caring so much about your normal appearance. It is perfectly fine as this is the time for you to let the inner beauty and glow shine through. Let the fertility Goddess show her beauty.

But it is also sensible to prepare your skin besides other mental and physical aspects. As you may have started noticing a bulge, the skin - an elastic organ keeps on stretching. But if not properly cared for, the skin may snap around the lower abdomen, breasts, thighs or buttocks, leading to stretch marks - which you will only realize later (AFTER the damage is done).

It is advisable that you apply a suitable stretch mark lotion like StretchNil - an ayurvedic (natural herbs) preparation on these parts of the body, that greatly enhances elasticity WITHOUT any side effects. StretchNil shall prepare our skin for stretching and minimize the possibility of any stretch marks. For best results, it should be used after the onset of 4 months of pregnancy.

2.

You start feeling more introverted and sometimes may find your intellectual faculties decreasing.

It is the time to sit back, think and rearrange priorities in life. The natural state of introversion experienced at this time can be used to best advantage by increasing your focus on meditation. Meditation will act as an anchor to your fluctuating thoughts and emotions.

You may like to consider suitable maternity wear to assist you in supporting your body during yoga and meditation. A very suitable maternity clothes line can be found here

You will also feel an increase in your intuitive capability. You may feel strange sensations, may find yourself at the right place at the right time. These changes are to be embraced and not resisted, as they will help in the coming time. This ability shall later enable you to communicate with your baby and understand his needs. Mediation will further enhance this skill.

Aware of these inputs, lay back and enjoy the changes in this most delightful phase of your pregnancy.

With warm wishes,
Ankita Goel
