Onset of the Second Trimester
By Ankita Goel

As you enter into the second trimester, you should be seeing the tiredness of the first trimester gradually give way to a surge of energy as you embark upon the exciting second phase. You may be interested to know why this happens. Read on....

Why you feel low in energy in the 1st Trimester

The yogic understanding of the energy slump experienced during the 1st trimester has 2 explanations:

The 1st one:

A baby is forming at an incredible speed from a 2 cell gamete (ovum + sperm = gamete) into a complex billion celled organism at about 12 weeks. The rate of multiplication of cells is so great that it is equivalent to laws of nuclear physics - that is, much more energy is required to set off an explosion (splitting of first atoms) than is required to keep it going. Hence, there is more energy consumption initially (1st 3 months) rather than later.

The 2nd one:

There is another level of understanding about the energy slump and consequent energy surge. Some may believe in it and many may not - that is fine by Yoga, as everyone has their own beliefs.

The explanation is that it is not until 12 weeks of pregnancy, that the individual 'soul' enters the foetus. During the 1st 3 months - the woman provides both for herself and her baby. This period is important for the child's physical development, when the life support organs, sensory organs, central nervous system, and energy system are being formed. It is during this time when a woman undergoes a test, whether she can support her as well as the baby's needs.

This is also the reason why women who fail the test have miscarriages in the first 3 months, because Nature decides if the mother is fit enough to carry on or not. The nature (soul) waits for the body structure to become definitely sustainable before inhabiting it.

Hence the tiredness miraculously disappears as the baby grows into the 2nd trimester. This is when the soul has entered the foetus and it now has its own identity. This event relieves the mother of the extra energy demand, as now the little body takes over control of its own energy systems.

So, bask in the feeling that a new 'life' is entering the mass growing inside you and now onwards it will be a baby with its own unique individuality.

This is also the time from which the belly shall start stretching gradually. Now is the time to begin lubricating your skin with a suitable stretch mark prevention cream. StretchNil is very effective in minimizing the occurrence of stretch marks and keep the irritating itch to a minimum. To evaluate this natural cream that is completely safe,
