Since the smoke is key in
ear coning,
it is crucial that the smoke isn’t laden with harmful toxins. This
is why Kansas Candles uses only certified organic beeswax and
certified organic cotton to make their ear candles. Not only are the
ingredients healthy but the beeswax may also contain antibacterial
and anti-fungal properties from the Manuka tree nectar (tea tree
family) gathered by the bees. Kansas Candles is very careful not to
disturb the properties of the beeswax during the manufacturing
process.
That said, the vast majority of candle
manufacturers depend on paraffin wax, a petroleum by-product, and
conventionally grown cotton, one of the most chemically laden crops
in the world. Most of the beeswax ear candles on the market are
actually a blend of paraffin and beeswax. This is because beeswax is
not only much more expensive but also more difficult to work with
than paraffin. Manufactures can even claim their products are 100%
beeswax even if they contain paraffin because natural non-food
products are largely unregulated.
You might be wondering why Kansas Candles use
certified organic beeswax, isn’t beeswax naturally organic? They
thought so too until they began getting headaches when melting the
first batch of beeswax for our product. After some research, they
discovered that pesticide strips had been used in the hives from
which the beeswax came. Unfortunately these pesticides have been
used world-wide since the mid-1980s to combat a mite infestation.
After learning that these pesticides were fat soluble (could be
found in the beeswax); it was imperative that they used certified
organic beeswax.
After more than two years of careful research,
they figured out how to make their candles without the use of any
additional substances; no additives, release agents, or glues. It is
just as important what doesn’t go into a product as what does. Each
ear candle is handmade with good energy by the Kansas Candles’
family.
Kansas Candles' packaging is also a reflection of
their commitment to the environment. Every part of the packaging is
completely sustainable. The sleeve is compostable cornstarch-based
film and the paper is a mixture of unbleached post-consumer recycled
paper and banana-waste fiber, with eco-friendly printing. They
package our candles in pairs for hygienic reasons and protection of
the product. Cleanliness and consistency are essential in the
complete process of the making and packaging of Kansas Candles.
Entrusting your ear coning experience to Kansas
Candles means the use of a product designed by an
environmentally-conscious family with your well-being as the first
priority. The result is an ear candle they are proud to provide to
family and friends alike.
They suggest using no more than two candles per
ear in a single session. One or two more sessions may be needed,
evenly spaced two to seven days apart.
