Advanced Yoga Study

matter creates in the Ego dissatisfaction and a strong desire for more of those material enjoyments. This rouses an exhiliration, a power or force, directed towards fulfillment and resulting in intoxication with and addiction to the objects gained (ie) material attachment. Matsarya in its full implication incites the lust of desire, and makes it impossible for one to reach one's goal and ideal of life. It is a dreamer. It makes man dream of a world of fulfilled desires, causing him to run after them through endless corridors of births and deaths. It makes one forget his true duty, those action that are correct for his own soul evolution and creates in him longings to imitate the position of others—that he might be or have what has aroused envy in him.

Conclusion
The main practical evil that comes with Ego and its six harmful expressions is the increasing compulsion to forget one's self or soul—and its expression, manifestation and requirements and to become stubbornly inclined to engage oneself in pursuing the insatiable necessities of Ego.

Psychologically, Ego represents a limited duplicate personality. It is necessary to weed out every little actions and reactions produced by the Ego. The aspiring yogi should always bear in mind, when he feels angry, he must strongly assert ‘That is not me'; when lust or greed is overpowering his calmness he should say "That is not me"; when hatred tries to obscure his real nature with a mask of ugly emotion he should forcefully say "That is not me"; Whenever the aspirant has been abused or hurt and yet he feels within a stirring of forgiveness and love he should affirm with conviction "That is me, my real nature" .

‘Ego is the problem'

Ego, ego that's the problem
What you think is not the problem;
Offshoots, offshoots they are of ego blocks
Crush this ego, everything will unlock.

Bow down, bow down
Everywhere bow down;
Bow down, bow down
To everything bow down.

Bow down, bow down
Do not judge;
Bow down, bow down
Keep no grudge.

Bow down, bow down
That's the way;
Bow down, bow down
Ego to slay.

Swamiji
