anatomically related to the solar plexus and controls the digestive fire and heat regulation in the body. It is the center of dynamism, energy, will and achievement. Those whose consciousness is centered here are hungry for power.

Characteristics

  • This chakra has 10 yellow petals. The petals produce the sounds Dam, Dham, Nam, Tam, Tham, Dam, Dham, Nam, Pam, Pham. For chakra activation these sounds are pronounced as Dang, Dhang, Nang, Tang, Thang, Dang, Dhang, Nang, Pang and Phang.

  • The Bija sound is Ram or Rang. The vehicle of bija is the ram. This is the vehicle of the fire god. The ram depicts the nature of a third chakra person. It is strong, unruly and charges with the head. Maintains control over others through anger. Basic motivation is power.

  • Presiding Deities are Rudra and Lakini.

  • Plane - Svara Loka ( Heaven or celestial plane); Element- Fire; Planet -Sun

  • Sense organs - Eyes and Legs

  • Yantra- Inverted triangle. The triangle represents the fire element.

  • Behavior- Between the ages 14 and 21 a person is ruled by this chakra. At this time the person develops his ego and his identity in this world. He strives for personal power and recognition even at the cost of family and friends.

Anahata Chakra (Fig-94)

Meaning
The word, ‘Anahata' means ‘unstruck'. It refers to a sound that is heard directly by the consciousness. This sound is not produced by energy waves striking against the ear drums.

Location
Located directly behind the center of the chest.

Function
The aim of this chakra is to experience love, personal or impersonal. Lovemaking changes significantly with awakened heart chakra. Sex from the lower charkas is need based—the need to release pent up energy, need for pleasure, the need for feeling of power. Sex at the fourth chakra is a blending of giving and receiving. It opens the door to higher level intimacy where you learn to make love to the Divine and your partner at the same time. This chakra is directly connected with that part of the brain which is responsible for all creative sciences and fine arts such as painting, dance, music, poetry etc. It controls the heart, mind and emotions. It is the source of prana vayu.

  • This chakra has 12 petals. They produce the sounds Kam, Kham, Gam, Gham, Yom, Cham, Chham, Jam, Jham, Yam, Tam, Tham. For activation of the charkas they are pronounced as Kang, Khang, Gang, Ghang, Yong, Chang, Chhang, Jang, Jhang, Uang, Tang and Thang.
