| There is a famous hymn of eight verses called ‘Lingashtakam'. Regular chanting of this hymn frees us from all sins. Nataraja The name means the king among dancers. It is one of Shiva's name. He is famous for His Tandava nritya. This dance is very famous in Indian tradition. It is exquisitely graceful in pose and rhythm. This dance is a symbolical representation of the whole process of creation, preservation and annihilation of the universe. When the equilibrium of the Gunas is disturbed by the will of the Lord the gunas begin to manifests into different elements. The vibration of Om takes place. This vibration is the dance of Shiva. The whole cosmic play is the dance of Shiva. When matter is resolved back to Spirit and the universe or part of it is annihilated that is also dance of Shiva. Nataraja has four hands. He wears Ganga and the cresent moon on His matted locks. On His right hand He holds the Damaru whose sound signifies the process of creation. On His left hand He holds fire symbol of destruction of the universe. His other right hand is in the symbol of abhaya mudra symbolizing protection and preservation. His other left hand points at the demon below His feet symbolizing ignorance taking the form of evil and wickedness will be destroyed. The circle around His form depicting fire all around is an apt symbol of the process of destruction. When the sun in our solar system will die it will explode spewing forth tremendous heat, light and fire all around which will evaporate all the planets and instantaneously destroy all life in the solar system. Shiva Ratri Maha Shiva Ratri means the great night dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva. It falls on the thirteenth day of the dark fortnight of the month of Falguna (Feb-Mar).
