| his eyes, hears through his ears. Body, prana, sense organs, mind, intellect, ego are all Her manifestations. Shakti is the energy or the vital power that makes any activity possible. When a man does any work he does it only by the virtue of his Shakti. If he is unable to do the work he says that he has no Shakti to do that work. Hence Shakti is that which enables one to work. Mind is Shakti. Prana is Shakti. Will is Shakti. A worshipper of Shakti is called a Shakta. Shakta does sadhana to unite Shiva and Shakti. Sadhana means unfolding, and awakening of Shakti. He becomes a Siddha a perfect being, when he is able to awaken Kundalini energy raise it up the six chakras and merge it with Shiva on top and experience the oneness of Shiva and Shakti. He thereafter has to bring the energy back to the mooladhara chakra. This is to be done in a perfect practical way under the guidance of a Guru. The Shakti is awakened by hatha yoga, dhyana, by emotional ecstasy (bhava) or by japa of mantras. The Sadhaka attains Siddhi easily when She is aroused. It is difficult to say when and how She shows Herself and to what sadhaka. Mode of sadhana depends upon the tendencies and capacities of the sadhaka. Kaali Kaali is one popular form in which the Divine Mother is worshipped. The word means dark. She is shown as dark or black in complexion. Modern scientists are also talking in terms of a dark energy which creates the universe. Kaal means time. So Kaali also means the creator of time or annihilator of time. Mother Kaali is depicted as standing or dancing on the breast of Shiva. She has terrible form but She is not really terrible. She is all-merciful and gentle. She wears a garland made up of human skulls. The skulls represent the mind and the ego offered to Her by Her devotees. She makes a garland of this offering and wears them. Kaali is the Divine Mother. She is the Shakti or power of Lord Shiva. She is the dynamic aspect of Shiva. Shiva is the static aspect. Lord Shiva lies under Her feet like a dead corpse. What does this signify? This signifies he is actionless, changeless, calm, motionless, substratum and untouched by the cosmic play or Lila that is eternally going on, on His breast. He is absolutely dead to the world. He is beyond the three Gunas. There is no duality, no plurality, no relativity, no differentiation between subject and object, no distinction, no difference, no Triputi, no dvandvas, no Raga-Dvesha, no good and evil in Him. He is ever pure, Nirlipta (unattached). And yet He is the source, substratum, support, first cause for this universe. He simply gazes. Shakti is vitalized. She works and creates. In His mere presence Shakti keeps up the play of this universe or Lila. The whole world is a mere vibration or Spandana in Him. He constitutes all the names and forms and yet He is above all names and forms. This is a great marvel and a supreme mystery which cannot be comprehended by the finite intellect. Durga The image or statue of Goddess Durga is one of the most common and popular forms in which the Divine Mother is worshipped in India. Goddess Durga is a symbolical representation of that Power which a spiritual aspirant generates within himself to fight and vanquish the greatest enemy within himself his ego. This demon ego rules over the kingdom of the body and the mind. This ego attacks the spiritual aspirant again and again in different forms represented by the black buffalo Mahishasura.
