Cataracts
Cataracts are kapha disorders. Molecules of kapha accumulate in the lens of the eye and affect its translucency and make it opaque. Use triphala wash. Boil one tea spoon of triphala for 5 minutes and strain with double layer of cotton cloth so that no particle of triphala is left in the tea. Wash the eyes with this tea 2 or 3 times daily. One drop of castor oil without preservatives placed in the eye at bedtime lubricates the eyes and removes kapha.

Cholesterol
High cholesterol means increased lipids (fats) in the blood. It is essentially a metabolic disorder. People having low liver function, diminished thyroid activity who has taken steroids in the past or whose diet is very kaphagenic is prone to develop cholestrol. Stick to kapha pacifying diet. No fatty fried foods. No cheese. No high-fat milk or yogurt. Less sweet and cold foods. Use garlic and onion. Take regular exercise. Mix 1 clove of fresh garlic chopped fine, ½ teaspoon grated ginger, and ½ tea spoon lime juice, eat before each meal. In the morning drink 1cup of hot water with one teaspoon of honey. Do bhastrika pranayama.

Colds and flu
Individuals often get cold and flu in winter and spring seasons. This is a kapha-vata disorder. The body builds up an excess of cool and moist kapha qualities resulting in congestion and running nose and at the same time suffer from excess vata which reduces agni leading to chills, loss of appetite and poor digestion. The best remedy is ginger. Ginger-cardamom-cinnamom tea. For cold with cough and congestion mix ½ teaspoon cinnamom and one teaspoon honey. Eat this mixture three times a day. For flu make a tea from one teaspoon tulsi in one cup of water. Boil for just one minute and then drink. Drinking hot water with a few leaves of tulsi a few times a day is helpful. Strictly avoid dairy products such as yogurt, cottage cheese, milk and cold drinks. Do bhastrika pranayama.

Colitis
Take aloe vera gel, 1 table spoon twice a day. Aloe vera is cooling and good for reducing pitta. Colon is the seat of vata. This vata is pulling or pushing pitta into the colon which then causes the colitis. To combat the excess pitta and to pacify the vata inject a cooling oil like coconut in the rectum, retain it for five minutes and bring it out.

Constipation
Constipation is a vata condition expressing dryness and hardness. Follow vata pacifying diet. Take one teaspoon of triphala. Steep in a cup of hot water for five minutes and drink. Taking two teaspoon of ghee in a cup of hot milk at bed time is very good for vata and pitta but it may not suit kapha types. Castor oil can be used when the constipation is obstinate. Make ginger tea and add two teaspoons of castor oil and drink.
Seasonal guidelines

Summer
In the morning as part of daily routine rub 6 ounces of coconut oil or sunflower oil in the body before bathing. Coconut oil is calming, cooling and soothing to the skin. Wear cotton
