also take far too much time to travel the GIT (Gastro Intestinal Tract) as their inferior nutrients and minimal fibre content do nothing to stimulate proper peristaltic motion (the waves which make food move onward and downwards). In either case, as a result of slow moving food in the GIT, that feeling of after meal heaviness lasts much longer. For the aware person, this heaviness will restrict their dynamism in subsequent life activities and as well, sluggish digestion will impede the lightness of mind and spirit needed for deep meditation.
Apart from the subjective and meditative reasons, there are certain other objective and practical reasons why an increasing number of people may not want to eat meat. One may be cost. A sensible, frugal person would surely want to explore any dietary alternatives whereby the ever growing cost of food could be reduced without compromising nutrition. By replacing meat in the diet with other comparable protein substitutes, a considerable sum of money can be saved.
Another common experience is that a lot of people who were force-fed meat in their childhood (and later in life admit to never having really liked it), once offered alternatives, have never returned to the meat eating habit. It is also interesting that these days, quite a few babies are being born with a natural dislike of meat. Kindly, their parents are not enforcing meat upon them and are allowing them to choose their preferred foods more liberally. In years to come, this will show that there must be some truth in the belief many intelligent people hold, that humans don't necessarily need to eat meat to survive and thrive.
Another argument which seems to indicate that the human body was not necessarily meant for meat eating is the comparison between carnivores, herbivores and humans. The meat eaters in the animal kingdom: have claws, perspire through the tongue and not the skin, have sharp front teeth (incisors) and no flat molars for grinding, their intestinal tract is only 3 times body length so that decaying meat can pass out quickly, they have very strong stomach acids to digest meat. In comparison, both herbivores and humans: have no claws, perspire though the skin, have no sharp teeth and have flat rear molars, their intestinal tract is 10 - 12 times body length, stomach acid is 20 times less strong than meat eating creatures.
The business about vegetarians missing out on certain essential amino acids and proteins has also been shown to be a myth. With a proper balance of complementary vegetable proteins from sources such as legumes, nuts, grains,

beans, as well as some animal fats and animal proteins from dairy foods, it is easily possible to provide all the essential nutrients for the body's needs.
The many healthy vegetarians alive today are ample evidence of this. Many famous and successful sportspersons have advocated the exclusion of meat for peak physical performance. They seem to be quite fit and healthy without it. Of course, there are also some pretty sick looking vegetarians around! These people are "idealist vegetarians", who may have a philosophy of not eating meat for whatever reason, but who have not yet grasped the necessity for a balance of food types within their diet. These people are not sick because they are vegetarian - they would be sick no matter what their food philosophy was, because they do not really aspire to a balanced diet. A philosophy alone, has never made anyone healthy. The body is too smart for that! It takes a balance of substances and actions. Unfortunately such types are not a good example upon which to assess vegetarian health.
There is now much mounting medical evi-dence about the toxic side effects upon humans of the hormonal additives within many stock feeds, (poultry included). This, added with the suspected adrenal input from the animal as it awaits certain death, definitely creates enough doubt in the mind to believe that any nutritional advantages of meat eating are fairly outweighed by the disadvantages.

~ The Great Milk Myth ~

Along with The Great Meat Myth - that people need to eat meat to survive and thrive - there exists today The Great Milk Myth - that humans need to drink a lot of milk to be healthy. Unfortunately, both these disproven ideas are still being widely disseminated by health professionals and those in the dairy industries with commercial interests to protect. We hear through the media that "youngsters have growing bones and need the calcium, protein and energy that only milk can provide". We hear that older people get calcium deficiencies because they didn't drink enough milk in their youth or because they stopped drinking milk at a mature age. We hear that low fat, calcium enriched milk is the best for your figure. We hear that top sports people are successful because they have milk on their breakfast cereals. Blah, blah, blah.
But all this modern milk drinking makes no commonsense, and ample evidence exists to show that humans do not in fact need copious amounts of cow's milk from
