What is Chronic Constipation?
Constipation is defined as passing hard stool which requires great effort to empty. This happens usually when the bowel is not emptied within 24 hours.
As we have seen, one of the major functions of large intestine is to reabsorb water from its contents; if the stool stays too short a period in the colon it leads to diarrhoea and if it stays too long it leads to constipation.

What are the causes of chronic constipation?
