Yoga For Diabetes

laid down for a social order, it was not difficult for the individual to accept to overcome the temptations of lower instinctual materialistic mind. But ever since the industrial revolution and the material affluence took the lead over spirituality, the scientists started disconnecting science from spirituality. The balance started getting disturbed when they declared that Science does not need to posit God to explain phenomena in the universe.

What we are seeing today is a reflection of this attitude of those scientists who dispensed with Consciousness, Spirituality, God, faiths and belief systems and developed a mechanical model of the human body which was compared to a man made machine. This has paved way for many of these life style related chronic ailments. This complex family of illnesses includes high cholesterol, obesity, diabetes (Type-II), heart disease, and hypertension. The management of diabetes cannot be complete without a coordinated team of clinicians and therapists who need to look into all aspects of the disease. A regular follow up to keep up the level of motivation through education to change the life style has been shown to reduce the occurrence of complications of diabetes by 52%. Thus ‘life style change’ has proved to be the cheapest but the most effective method to prevent rapid progress of the the disease process and its complications.

Regular practice of Yoga characterized by deep relaxation to the body, slowing down of the breath and calming down of the mind enhances the value of such preventive educative programs by improving the steadiness and will power to manage their diabetes with ease and joy.

This book “Yoga for Diabetes - Modern Meidcal & Yogic perspective” is meant to be a reference book for yoga therapists and persons with diabetes to get the right understanding of the disease, the role of individual’s effort to correct one’s own patterns of thinking and also to explain the actual practices that can be practiced by diabetics.
