Uterine Signs : Size, shape and consistency - The uterus is enlarged to the size of hen's egg at 6th week, size of the cricket ball at 8th week and the size of a fetal head by 12 week. The piriform shape of the nonpregnant uterus becomes gloubular by 12th week. The uterus becomes acutely anteverted between 6-8 weeks. There may be asymmetrical enlargement of the uterus if there is lateral implantation. As pregnancy advances, symmetry is restored. The pregnant uterus feels soft and elastic. 1.4.2 Changes in Second Trimester Symptoms : Quickening and Progressive enlargement of the lower abdomen by the fetus. Signs : Chloasma - Pigmentation over the forehead and cheek may appear at about 24th week. Breasts - are more enlarged with prominent veins under the skin. Secondary aerola, specially demarcated in primi. Tubercles are prominent. Colostrum becomes thick and yellow by 16th week. Variable degree of striae may be visible. Abdominal examination : Linear pigmented zone (linea nigra) visible as early as 20th week. Striae (both pink and white more towards the flanks).
