weeks, engagement of the head should be tested. If the head is floating, it is of 32 weeks pregnancy and if the head is engaged, it is of 40 weeks pregnancy. Fetal movements are easily felt. Palpation of the fetal parts and their identification becomes much easier. Fetal Heart Sounds (F.H.S) is heard distinctly at areas corresponding to the presentation and position of the fetus.

1.5 Complications of pregnancy

What is the need for vigilance during antenatal care?

Which can be easily prevented by early recognition and management. Pregnancy-induced hypertension [PIH], even today the causes for high BP in pregnancy is not yet clearly understood. Probably it is due to stress and tension, fear and anxiety in the mother. Once she learns to calm down her mind “manaç praùamana upáya yogaç” reducing her speed of thoughts, the high blood pressure can come down to normal levels.

The other problem in pregnancy which is rather uncommon is gestational diabetes mellitus [GDM]. This condition also can be aggravated by stress and anxiety about her pregnancy. Yoga practices will help enormously to bring back the blood sugar level to normal levels.

One more, rather common problem that she may develop is intra-uterine growth retardation [IUGR]. This may be due to causes in the mother like poor nutrition, alcohol and smoking, infections etc. It may also result from fetal causes like chromosomal abnormalities.
