Yoga and mindful cooking in the Portuguese countryside (women only)
Re-connect to your body & develop your cooking skills in an intimate setting on an unique location.
This intimate 5 day yoga and cooking retreat will give you the opportunity to expand your cooking repertoire by exploring the possibilities of cooking in the whole food kitchen. The small group setting of the retreat allows for a high level of personal attention and the possibility to learn yoga and cooking almost one-to-one from an experienced teacher.
This retreat is suitable for those who are interested to deepen their practice of both yoga and holistic cooking/health, but is also open to beginners in both fields. The classes are kept simple and aimed at providing you with the tools for easy and sustainable yoga practice, quick and easy whole food recipes and playful cooking skills for every day life.
If you wish to learn more about what food and eating means to you, how eating is linked to emotions and how to use mindful practices to eat healthier, slower and maybe even less, this retreat will be of unique value!
This specific program has place for 4 participants and is a womens only retreat. The program takes place in the countryside of Vilarinha, in a beautiful private countryhouse. You will be sharing (spacious) rooms with a maximum of two people and your teacher Kaya will be staying with you during the duration of the program. This will allow for the program to be much more than simply an isolated experience. Sharing, bonding and "being" together will be an essential part of the retreat, although silent alone time is highly encouraged as well.
The program package includes:
* 5 nights of comfortable accommodation in our private countryside villa
* 5 mornings of daily personalized outdoor yoga practice
* daily morning meditations
* daily nature walks
* 4 afternoon cooking workshops, followed by a communal dinner
(including breakfast preparation for next morning)
* mindful and meditative eating practices
* personalized set of yoga exercises to take back home
* five days of ALL home made whole food meals (of which 4 self-prepared)

The retreats yoga practice is inspired by different yoga traditions from all over the world, but finds it's basis in Vijñana Yoga; a relatively physical form of yoga, with at the same time plenty of attention for the practice of meditation and pranayama (breathing). The combination of these three aspects, meditation, breath and asana, aim to provide you with a strong foundation for a continuous home practice.
During the retreats we go back to the basics. We observe and look inwards. There is time to ask.. How does my breath feel? Can I use my breathing in my movement? What feels good and comfortable? Where do I feel tension or discomfort? Vijñana Yoga stands for practicing from inside, with gentleness and care, without being concerned with what the eventual posture should look like. The perfect posture only exists in the heart.
Coming to one of Shengaya's yoga retreats will generally help you to:
* Acquire the initial building blocks for a beginning self practice or deepen your existing yoga practice
* Gain insight in the how and why of physical discomfort and injuries
* Deepen the contact with your body
* Experience the incredible benefits of a regular practice

During this unique yoga and cooking retreat we work with the principles of whole food nutrition and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Our meals are nutritionally balanced and organic where possible. We use fresh vegetables and their juices, a minimal amount of nutritious whole grains, live foods like organic yoghurt and sprouts, beans and pulses, supplemented with high quality oils, seeds and sea vegetables.
You will be learning how to sprout, prepare your own home made live yoghurt, cook nourishing dishes for specific health conditions and make quick and easy meals to get you through your busy every day schedules.
During the retreat we refrain from eating refined foods, wheat products, sugar, sweeteners and most fruits, fried foods, caffeïne, theïne and other stimulants, excessively spiced foods, dairy products (except for probiotic yoghurt) and meat.
Additional focus is on learning how to prepare satisfying, yummie tasting and good looking dishes which will nourish body and soul in numerous ways. Our aim is to help you to re-connect to your body and feel where your food cravings come from. We believe that to recognize them more clearly, will allow you to make better choices in how you nourish yourself (with food, but also in life in general), making you feel healthier, more grounded and at ease in your body and life.
