ABDOMINAL

All troubles like acidity,
constipation, wind formation, indigestion, dysentery, diarrhoea, stomach
ache which disturb the normal functioning of the digestive system are
known as abdominal disorders. These problems affect the young and old
alike. The causes of abdominal disorders can be many, but can be cured
through yogic system of treatment.

Food Cure |
The primary consideration
for a healthy body and hence eyes is to eat a healthy diet. Foods like
pickles, red pepper, and other spicy foods, which strain the nerves, should
be avoided.

Breakfast (7
to 9 a.m.): |
- 1 cup Orange or Grape fruit (mausami)
juice
- 1 Apple or any other fresh fruit
- Wheat bread with vegetables
- 1/4 cup Germinated grams (sprouts)

- 1-2 teaspoons of trifula powder at bedtime

HEART BURNS |
- Trifula (three fruit) powder is extremely
helpful in relieving acidity and heartburn.

- Honey - Spinach juice

DYSENTERY and

- Jambul
seed powder has been used through the ages in oriental culture for

INDIGESTION
|
- Juice of basil leaves or basil powder
is very effective in correcting indigestion.
- Fenugreek leaves (Methi) - helps in
indigestion.
- Lemon juice - stimulates saliva thus
indirectly adding to availability to enzymes.
- Ginger - turns down gastric secretions,
and is very good for those having problem of indigestion.
- Pineapple juice - relieves digestive
disorders.
- Radish - when eaten raw increases appetite
and improves digestion.
- Mint - either in taken in tea or in
the form of chutney helps.

CONSTIPATION
|
- Syllium seeds when had with milk in
the night before going to bed are a great help in relieving constipation.
- Wheat Bran - an insoluble fiber is the
best laxative . 2 tablespoons gulped with water are helpful for those
with constipation.
- Amla
(Gooseberry) - also helps.
- Apricots, Grapes, Dates and Prunes -
all are laxatives.
- Milk (Cow's or Goat's) - a glass taken
with honey at bedtime relieves constipation.
- Water - a glass taken at bedtime and
first thing in the morning helps a lot.
- Trifula (three fruit) powder besides
its various beneficial properties also helps greatly.

ARTHRITIS |
|
Arthritis a disease of
joints, is mainly caused by deficiency of calcium, hydrochloric acid or
malnutrition, by obesity, physical stress or glandular insufficiency.
Millions of people of all age groups suffer from this torturing disease.
The most disheartening aspect of the disease is that it does not get easily
cured through medicine when it is in chronic stages. But it has been found
that with regular practice of yoga and a proper diet moderate arthritis
can be cured within two months and in chronic cases it takes around 4-5
months.

Food Cure |
An arthritic
or rheumatic person should stop taking bananas and curd (yogurt). Also
no more than two cups of coffee or tea should be taken within 24 hours.
They should eat 4 times daily.

BRONCHIAL
ASTHMA |
|
The main trouble in this
disease is breathlessness and is caused by the disorder in respiratory
system. There is constriction of the bronchioles, which disturbs the normal
ratio of inspiration and expiration. Because of congestion of the blood
vessels of the bronchial lining expiration becomes difficult. This disease
affects the young , old and even children.. The most disheartening aspect
of asthma is that it does not get completely cured through medicines.
Where as it has been seen that patients of asthma who regularly practised
yoga were cured.

Food Cure |
A balanced diet of salad,
fresh fruits, vegetables , sprouts and leafy vegetables should be an essential
part of an asthmatic's daily meal. They should eat 4 times a day.

tea is recommended in cases of bronchial and cardiac asthma.

- Turmeric (Haldi) - Can be taken with
honey or warm milk.
- Sweet yogurt - inhibits production of
histamine which produces the symptoms of allergy.
- Peppermint - eliminates hardening mucus.
- Trifula and Long pepper (Pipali) - are
also useful.
- Pineapple juice - helps by dissolving
mucus.

DIABETES |
|
Diabetes a very old disease,
has a common feature - excessive accumulation of sugar in the blood ,
due to malfunctioning of pancreas. The general prevalent method of treating
the diabetic patient is to inject insulin to compensate what could not
be produced by the pancreas. The yogic treatment restores the normal functioning
of the pancreas and other endocrinal glands. The chemistry of the body
becomes normal leading to a healthy body.

Food Cure |
Diabetics should avoid
fatty, spicy , starchy foods, fruits with high sugar content like banana,
grapes, oranges, mangoes , potato etc. Also rice should be avoided. The
evening meals should be taken atleast 2 hours before going to bed.

- Pre-breakfast:
Half an hour before breakfast have 1 teaspoon
of 100% natural anti diabetic powder
with luke warm water. This powder made by crushing seeds and leaves
is absolutely safe for even a normal person.
- Breakfast (7 to 9 a.m.):
- One apple or 1 cup tomato juice
- 1/4 cup sprouts (germinated gram)

- It contains high dosage of "plant insulin"and is the best food therapy
for diabetics. Take its juice or as vegetable with seeds.
- Fenugreek seeds (Methi
dana ) - A teaspoonful of these
seeds (preferably ground) can be gulped daily with water.
- Jambu
(Jamun)fruit or Jambul seed powder - It is very effective in curing
diabetes.The stone of the fruit can be powdered and can be taken 2-3
gms a day.
- Garlic and Soyabeans
- Invigorate the pancreas.
- Fresh tart fruits and
leaves of bael tree - help in controlling
diabetes.
- Tumeric (Haldi)
- About 1/2 tea spoon boiled in 1 cup milk also helps. For those aspiring

Headache is usually but
a symptom of disease somewhere in the body. Disease conditions and irritation
anywhere in the system are telegraphed to headquarters in the brain and
there manifest in the form of various symptoms, the most frequent of which
is headache. It is one of the most prevalent and common diseases of our
time. People suffer from various kinds of headaches due to various causes
like indigestion, sinus, eye pain, high or low blood pressure, smoking
etc. but whatever the cause , headache is curable through the yogic method.

A balanced
diet of salad, fresh fruits, vegetables , sprouts and leafy vegetables
is an essential for a person suffering from headaches. They should drink
10-15 glasses of fresh water every 24 hours to completely detoxify the
body of wastes. They should avoid fried and roasted things.

HEART
DISEASE |
|
Millions of people in the
world suffer from the diseases of the heart and blood vessels. The heart,
which is muscular pump, keeps the blood circulation of blood going. But
when there is a break down of this complicated mechanism, blood supply
to a part of the body may be affected leading to what is known as heart
attack.
But with yoga the cardiovascular
diseases can be cured. Diseases that can be cured are:

- Arteriosclerosis
- hardening of arteries
- Coronary Thrombosis
- sudden blocking of one of the arteries.
- Degenerative Heart disease
- gradual decay of blood vessels due to excessive smoking of tobacco.
- Hypertensive Heart Disease
- Straining of blood vessels due to high blood pressure. This leads
to hardening of blood vessels, hence diminishing the supply of blood.
- High Blood Pressure
(Hypertension) - Blood pressure
remains high leading to disorders like lack of strength, bad temper,

People suffering from heart
disease should stop smoking cigarettes, tea and coffee. Intake of butter,
oil, cream, eggs, and meat should be stopped. Also food items like pickles,
red chillies, hot spices should be excluded from eating items. The primary

- When ground and taken with honey as a drink are good for heart palpitation.

OBESITY |
|
Obesity is becoming a common
health hazard and leads to many other diseases like coronary heart disease
, high blood pressure, diabetes, psychosomatic disorders and a shorter
life span. The main cause of obesity is excessive eating. The best method
to control weight is to reduce the intake of protein, carbohydrates and
fat and increase the supply of mineral and vitamins, and also increase
exercises.

SINUSITIS |
|
Sinus has become a very
common disorder of the day. Due to constant sneezing and watering of the
nose makes the life of the patient miserable. Usually it is a resultant
state of allergy. Doctors try to find out the particular allergens to
which the patient is allergic. Medication is then given for developing
resistance in the patients. Though medicinal aids provide momentarily
relief, they do not provide any permanent cure.
The yogic system believes that main cause of sinus is a faulty diet. Patients
are advised to take balanced diet. |
