Increased Eye Pressure - also called as
high IOP (Intra Ocular Pressure) or OHT (Ocular Hypertension) - is a
condition where the fluid in the eye create an abnormal pressure
upon the inside of our eye.
This is a condition which may lead to
Glaucoma - a disorder which, if left untreated, would result in
progressive blindness.
High IOP should be treated.
Fortunately, treatment is available by way of eye drops. However,
the use of these eye drops is often accompanied with several
side-effects. Moreover, they are rather expensive and in most cases,
have to be pursued with life-long.
Unfortunately, there is no other
'proven' conclusive treatment for this condition.
However, Anecdotal evidence seems to
suggest that the practice of Neti (saline nasal irrigation) can have
a positive effect in the reduction of IOP.
Neti is a process of using a special
neti pot to rinse your nasal passages through and thorough.
Whether it is just the practice of
neti or the associated nostril drying process with short rapid
breaths that brings relief is still to be ascertained. Either way,
it would seem that incorporating this daily hygiene practice could
help alleviate this dreadful condition.
If true, this would undoubtedly be a
boon for the millions of sufferers worldwide.
For one, neti is a purely natural practice and it costs next to
nothing.
But most importantly, it is a very
beneficial practice for sinus and overall health. It has only
benefits as opposed to the harmful and disturbing side effects of
expensive medication.
In any case, due to its perfectly
safe and beneficial nature, it would be good if glaucoma suspects
and patients would consider adopting this - first in conjunction
with their medication - and then, perhaps on a standalone basis if
neti has the desired effect. |
