Aarti Spiritual significance Aarti means, worshiping God by waiving lights, burning incense, camphor, offering flowers, fruits and singing devotional songs describing His powers, glories and praising Him for all the benediction that comes to us from Him. The waving of lights in the Aarti denotes that the Lord is Jyoti Swarupa (His form is Light). The devotee says, ‘O Lord, Thou art the light in the sun, the moon and the fire. Remove the darkness in me by bestowing Your divine light of wisdom'. The lighting of camphor denotes that the ego of the individual should melt like the camphor. Prasada is the sacred food offering to the Lord. The devotee offers sweets, fruits, milk, rice and other such articles. After offering to the Lord the Prasada becomes purified which is then shared and eaten by the devotees. The mental bhava (attitude) is very important.
