In this mantra the deities Indra, Pusha, Tarksha or Garuda and Brihaspati have been mentioned. These deities are directly connected to the Science of the stars. The sky is divided into 27 parts based on the Nakshatras. Nakshtra means a particular prominent star or a group of stars occupying a prominent place in the sky. Many of these stars have been given the names which are generally used for the prominent deities. Chitra is an important star in the middle of the nakshatras. The Lord of this star is Indra, who is mentioned first in the mantra.
