Narada Bhakti Sutras

(Narada's Aphorisms on Devotion) Sutra 4

Yallabdhva puman siddho bhavati amrto bhavati trpto bhavati. (4)

By attaining which one becomes fulfilled, immortal and satisfied.

A misconception of Love is that one requires an object to fix love upon it. The fact is that there is no need of any object to be in love with. Even without any object, one can be in Love. Love can exist in itself.

Love towards self is not Love towards an object. Self transcends all the objects and therefore comprises or encompasses all the objects. That which transcends all, alone can encompass all. Thus love towards Self is Love towards all.

With this Love, one is complete. This Love is joy forever; hatred is misery. To love is a blissful experience. The Seer loves forever. Thus, he is always in Bliss. He is self-satisfied. He is neither dissatisfied (depressed) with the loss of any object, nor satisfied (excited) with the attainment of any object, as his love is not towards any particular object.

Love towards an object can, of course, be the first step. When pursued, it can lead to the love supreme with all accomplishments; immortal love makes such a person totally satisfied into him.
