Narada's Aphorisms on Devotion Sutra-21

Yatha Vrajagopikanam (21)

As the shepherdess

Mahabharata also beautifully describes the play of the child Krishna with all shepherd-boys, perhaps, he might have played with shepherd-girls also, though it is not mentioned in Mahabharata.

But this child's play is beautifully as a romance in Bhagavatam. This in nothing wrong, because the sole aim of Bhagavatam is not to give a historical document of Krishna, but to take the aspirants to the spiritual ecstasy through the Bhava of Krishna. If the sole aim is to take to the spiritual ecstasy, it can be even done through imaginations, dreams and fantacies; there is no need that we must go to the spiritual ecstasy only through the historical documents.

There is nothing wrong in dreaming Krishna or Rama as one's own lover, who has all divinely qualities, because that dream uplifts him/her to spiritual ecstasy. There are many Christian nuns who feel Christ as their lover. There are many Sufis who consider Allah as their beloved.

The path of Bhakti includes several imaginations, fantacies and dreams. Even performing puja itself is an imagination, considering an idol as Divine, inviting Him, offering flowers and fruits to him and lighting up the camphor to Him, everything is an imagination.
